My Entrepreneurship Story

My Entrepreneurship Story

I am lucky to have been raised with many incredible entrepreneurs in my life. As long as I have been alive, I have lived with entrepreneurs. Before I was born, my grandmother and my mother teamed up to open an adult consignment store here in Gainesville. It was one of the first consignment stores in the area and allowed many people to save money on clothes, shoes, and accessories. Many other consignment stores began to open and my grandmother retired. This is when my mother noticed that adults did not need clothes as much as children do. Children are constantly growing and so their wardrobes are much more expensive than adults who can wear the same size outfits for many years. This realization pushed my other to open her own business, Weecycle. Weecycle is a children's consignment store that allows parents to sell their children's outgrow clothes and trade them in for clothes in their new size. She has run and expanded this store throughout my entire life and has worked to help the Gainesville community for many years.

I also work for a local finance and accounting firm. My boss is an entrepreneur, similar to my mother, who is constantly trying to find ways to make her community better. She got her business degree at UF and decided to open her firm in Gainesville to help local businesses in the area that she was raised. Her husband runs his own DJing company, as well as a dog park in Gainesville. These three things do not seem to go together, but they were all things that they loved doing and saw a need for in the community. Through their businesses, I am able to constantly meet new people and business owners. At the accounting firm, I do reconciliations and invoicing for small businesses and I am always interested in their different business plans and how they compare to one another.

These life experiences are what inspired me to take this class. I have always been surrounded by incredible entrepreneurs but have never considered myself to be an entrepreneur. I am hopeful to be able to analyze my own decisions and beliefs to turn my thoughts and actions into those similar to the entrepreneurs that I have been raised with. Even if this class does not give me inspiration to pursue my own ideas, I hope that it will give me a better understanding of how the people in my life have gotten to where they are and the struggles they had to face to accomplish what they have.

  1. I really love your entrepreneur story it is different from a lot of people. It is really cool to see that you have all these connects and stories. I am really impress with your story and how your boss is also a entrepreneurs, that you surround yourself with entrepreneur for the future. That your grandma and mom was in the business. That you also work with somebody who has a lot experience in entrepreneur. I really think how you can improve in the future is to have more people joining you and help your business get bigger and that it can spread around the world.
